A 23-year-old has been arrested after a Range Rover hit a tree and flipped onto its side.

The man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified, and having no insurance after a police chase in Tolpits Lane, Watford, at 5.20pm today (August 8).

A black Range Rover with no number plates had failed to stop for officers in Charlock Way before the “driver clipped a tree and flipped on to its side”, Herts Police confirmed.

Charlock Way runs between Vicarage Road and Tolptis Lane.

The male driver, the car’s only occupant, was uninjured.

There is a traffic island in the middle of the road, slightly before being opposite the tree. The crash appears to have torn off part of the bark of the tree.

Witnesses have said the road was then closed to traffic before more police cars, a fire engine, and an ambulance were called to the scene.

As of 7pm, only two police cars and a recovery truck remained at the scene in Tolpits Lane.
