These pictures show the scene of a multi vehicle car crash that caused severe rush hour delays on the M1.
Police said a black Audi Q5 and a silver Peugeot 207 were involved in the smash between junctions 8 and 9, northbound, just before 6pm on Monday, August 7.
All four lanes were closed, and a diversion was put in place while emergency services attended the scene.
At its peak, delays were around 30 minutes long with four miles of congestion.
Three fire engines, from Hemel Hempstead and St Albans were sent to the scene, where they found two of the cars had collided.
Nobody was trapped, but several people were injured, and firefighters provided trauma care to four people until the ambulance service arrived at the scene.

Two people were later transported to Luton and Dunstable Hospital for further assessment and care with minor injuries.
By 7.30pm all four lanes had reopened.
At the time of publishing, no arrests had been made.
