A man was taken to hospital after a car crashed into an automatic bollard.

Police were called to Clarendon Road, Watford, at 2.30pm on Friday, July 28.

The barriers near Watford Palace Theatre lower into the ground for buses, council vehicles and police cars.

ANPR cameras are used to recognise the registration plates.

In pictures shared with the Watford Observer a black Audi can be seen in the middle of the road with two bollards up either side of it.

One of the bollards is under the car, with what looks like an opened air bag inside the car.

Buses in the area were diverted while the incident was dealt with. Recovery was then arranged for the Audi.

Officers told the Observer that previous collisions have occurred there as some people do not realise the bollards only lower for certain vehicles and come back up after those that are allowed go through.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “We were called at 2.36pm with reports of a collision in Clarendon Road, Watford.
