A planning application has been submitted to revamp Rickmansworth Aquadrome's bridge.
Three Rivers District Council has committed to paying £320,524 towards replacing the current pedestrian bridge off Riverside Drive, next to Ebury Park Area.
It will also bid for £961,572 in government funding to pay for the rest.
A recent report found that, although safe to use, the bridge "was reaching the end of usable life and would require significant repairs in the coming years", according to TRDC.
The planning application was submitted on July 7 and validated on July 18.
Residents have been sent letters encouraging them to comment on the application via the website, email or by post before August 11.

The bridge's improvements will include being over four metres wider than the current version, with updated fencing, seating areas and footpaths.
It will also allow for a cycle lane, which it previously did not have.
