A man is set to appear at crown court accused of a spate of vehicle crimes in Watford.

Abid Hussain, 37, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody after being charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Theft from a motor vehicle x 2
  • Possession of a class B drug (cannabis)
  • Drive a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence
  • Failure to provide a specimen for analysis
  • Criminal damage

The charges relate to the theft of an Audi TT from an address in Peace Drive, Watford, overnight between Sunday, July 16 and Monday, July 17.

On Wednesday, July 19, the Watford Safer Neighbourhood Team ran an evening operation in west Watford where they overtly tried the handles of 333 vehicles to see if they were unlocked.

Of those checked, 11 vehicles were found to be insecure. The team then either spoke to the registered owners to offer crime prevention advice or delivered crime prevention leaflets through their door.
