The days each section of a Watford school's road will be shut have been confirmed ahead of repair works.

Gammons Lane in North Watford, which homes Beechfield School and has been labelled the town’s “worst” for potholes, has long been scheduled to be fully resurfaced.

The provisional (July 31 to August 17) dates have now been confirmed, along with more details of when each part of the road will be shut, requiring motorists to move their cars. They were chosen to avoid disruption during term-time at the school.

In phase 1, the road will shut from the traffic lights at the junction with Longspring up to 128 Gammons Lane, which is near the Callowland Recreation Ground bus stops. This will be July 31 and August 1.

Phase 2 will be in place on August 2 and 3 and stretch from 128 Gammons Lane to the roundabout with Howard Close.

From there, phase 3 will stretch to Leaford Crescent and take place on August 4 and 7.

On August 8, 9, 10 and 11 the road will be closed from Leaford Crescent to the junction with Chilcott Road.

On August 14 and 15, phase 5 will see it shut from where highways left off to Courtlands Drive.

Finally, various locations will be shut in the road on August 14 and 15 for gully cleaning, road markings, and other work grouped together as phase 6.

All road closures will be in effect from 9.30am until 4.30pm.

Labour county councillor Asif Khan, who had long pushed for the repairs, said: "I'm really pleased that we have got a detailed plan and dates when the works will be completed.

The councillor used his highways budget to pay for part of the road to be resurfaced last year but has been pushing for the rest to be done by Herts Highways.

He had previously described the road as “dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists”.
