A road is set for new flats after a plan to demolish a “tired-looking” house was approved.
The development at 90 Aldenham Road, Bushey, was granted full planning permission today (June 29) after being proposed to Hertsmere Borough Council in March.
Previous applications had been granted approval, in 2020 and 2021, to demolish the building and replace it with four and five flats respectively but after the latest approval six flats are allowed.
- Plan to demolish 'tired' Aldenham Road house for flats
- New bid to turn 'abandoned' hotel site into 57 homes
- £18,147 raised for dad's funeral and his eight-year-old's tumour battle
Two would be built per floor over three floors.
Recommending approval, the planning officer said: “The proposal is acceptable in principle and satisfactory with regard to design and appearance, would preserve the character and appearance of the street scene, and would not impact on residential amenities, parking, access, landscaping, flood risk, and waste storage.”
According to the design and access statement submitted with the plan, the existing building is “tired-looking”.
It added that the new design's “clean lines and proportions" would “represent a significant uplift in the character of the site and the street scene”.
The new building would include parking spaces for six cars, which is below Hertsmere Borough Council’s adopted car parking standards.
However, planning officers noted that the site is “within a sustainable location” due to nearby shops and transport links.
