A driver has been arrested after a crash that saw a man in his 70s airlifted to hospital with life-changing injuries.
Police were called to the A405 North Orbital Road near St Albans yesterday (June 26) at around 4.05pm, when a Citroen van hit a pedestrian.
Officers attended alongside colleagues from the ambulance service and air ambulance.
Road closures were put in place between the A405 North Orbital Road roundabout and the B4630 Watford Road roundabout and Tippendell Lane.
A 43-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead, the driver of the Citroen van, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving and has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
PC Alison Elderfield, from the road policing unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we are urging anyone with information to please get in touch.

“Were you in the area at the time and saw what happened?
“Additionally, if you have a dash cam fitted, please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage that may help our investigation.”
