Smoke could be seen rising from underneath Watford General Hospital as firefighters tackled a blaze.
Four Herts Fire and Rescue engines were called to the emergency, believed to be an electrical fire that started in the basement of H block, this afternoon (June 22).
Herts Police were also called out and assisted at the scene, in Vicarage Road, putting road closures in place and asking people to avoid the area.
Fortunately, no one has been seriously injured according to information given to Watford mayor Peter Taylor.
At around 4.10pm Herts Fire and Rescue confirmed they had put the fire out.
A spokesperson said: "Firefighters have now successfully extinguished the fire, although we’re still at the scene ventilating the area and liaising with the hospital staff."
A&E has been closed to ambulances.
