Emergency road repairs have begun in St Albans Road, Watford, due to a cable fault in the traffic lights at the junction with Garston Lane.
Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) has approved the work with the permit being in place until June 21.
The repair works are being carried out by UK Power Networks, responsible for the lights.
The council said: “Temporary traffic lights are in place while the works are carried out.
“The temporary lights are using the same phasing as the normal lights, so hopefully there will be minimal disruption to traffic.”

However, the alert on one.network has said that delays are likely, it added that a pedestrian walkway will be provided because there will also be a footway closure.
A UKPN spokesperson said: “Our engineers are working as quickly as is safely possible to repair the power supply to a street light on St Albans Road, Watford.
This essential work started today (June 15) and is due to be completed by Wednesday (June 21) but we appreciate the impact and will finish sooner if possible.”
Appeal
In a separate and unrelated incident, an appeal has been launched by the police after two vehicles in Whippendell Road, near the bottom end after Hagden Lane, had paint poured over them during the night.
