An 18-year-old woman who only recently started driving was left “terrified” after a hit-and-run crash in Watford.
Andra Vornicu was heading back to her parents’ house with a friend when her car was hit at around 11.25pm in the A4178, at the junction with Thomas Sawyer Way, on May 30.
The student said she had noticed a Honda driver had been behind her for a while before she reached the junction.

“When the lights turned green, he cut in front of me. He was half on the pavement and then he was about to hit the island, so he went right into me,” she said.
“I beeped for him to stop but he just drove off.”
After the grey Honda driver zoomed off, Ms Vornicu is now facing a £600 to £700 repair bill, with insurance apparently looking to cost even more if she went through them. She has also been left badly shaken.
“Oh my god,” she said, recounting the crash. “It was so terrifying I was breaking down. Still now I break down thinking about it.”
Ms Vornicu’s family asked anyone who saw the crash or a damaged grey Honda nearby to get in touch, as she didn’t get the number plate.
She said police were called but did not come out. Recovery arrived for the vehicle within half an hour. Police have been contacted for more information.
Anyone with information about the incident can report it online at herts.police.uk/report or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting collision reference 1314890.
