An appeal has overturned the decision to block a new 5G mast labelled “visually dominant”.
The plan for an 18-metre 5G monopole in Aldenham Road, opposite Bushey Grove Leisure centre, was submitted to Hertsmere Borough Council in July 2022 and rejected in August of that year.
The borough council, which described the pole as "visually dominant", said it would “adversely affect the openness and character of the green belt, and the applicant has not demonstrated a very special circumstance for this proposal”.

It added that not enough information had been given to show the location would be the least harmful available.
The appeal was then launched earlier this year on behalf of internet service provider Three UK and granted on May 25, overturning the council decision.
In its statement of case, the company highlighted the importance placed on improving telecommunications infrastructure in the Hertsmere Core Strategy and the National Policy Framework.
The Planning Inspectorate agreed with Three and said: “Overall, the proposal would not have a harmful effect on the character and appearance of the area.”
It described the pole as “relatively slender” and said the equipment cabinets would be “modest” in scale and design.
No objections were submitted to the council while the application was considered.
