The headteacher of a Bushey primary school has been "overwhelmed with positive and praiseworthy feedback" after it scooped another 'good' Ofsted.

Little Reddings Primary School retained its rating for the second time running while receiving praise for a "can-do attitude".

Following an inspection on March 8, with the report published this month, it was also hailed as a "welcoming school" where "bullying is rare".

Children are also "confident that adults will deal quickly with anyone who is disrespectful", inspectors said.

Ofsted praised the school's approach to reading, stating: "Leaders and teachers have made reading a priority, including in early years.

"All adults are well trained to teach reading and pupils benefit from daily phonics and reading sessions that develop fluency and understanding.

"Many pupils are now making good progress in reading."

It was also noted that pupils feel safe at the school, and have trusted adults who will help them.

Regarding areas to improve, the report continues: "In some foundation subjects, pupils are not making as much progress as they could.

"This is because pupils are not always getting clear and precise feedback on how to improve their understanding.

"Leaders need to ensure that the feedback teachers give to pupils is matched to the specific and detailed knowledge they want them to know."

Another area to improve was noted as providing pupils with work that is "too broad in its scope".

The report recommends that leaders "check regularly that pupils have a deep understanding of what they have learned".

Headteacher Rebecca Tregear said: "We never ‘do things for Ofsted’, we do things because they fit with our vision and values and we believe they are right for the children in our care, to help them to flourish academically, socially and emotionally."

She added: "I am extremely proud of all the children and staff for their hard work and dedication in making Little Reddings Primary School such a wonderful school."

Little Reddings, whose previous 'good' inspection was in 2016, recently had planning permission approved to build a new school on the site.

The existing single-storey main building, which was built in the 1960s, would be replaced with a two-storey, 420-place school and 39-place nursery – the same number of places as the existing unit.
