A GP surgery has shared images of flood damage which forced it to close, as it restarted appointments.

Baldwins Lane Surgery said it had a “major incident” on May 2 and would be unable to open due to damage and electricity needing to be shut off.

Staff had arrived at the practice in Baldwins Lane, Croxley Green, that morning to find a burst pipe over the bank holiday weekend had flooded and damaged both floors of the building.Watford Observer: Baldwins Lane Surgery

Today (May 4), a spokesperson for the surgery explained that staff had "worked hard" to contact anyone with appointments and put alternative arrangements in place.

“Thanks to a lot of hard work we have been able to restore phone and internet services from this morning,” they said.

“This means we can once again offer phone consultations and make appointments. Thanks to colleagues at nearby practices, we are also able to offer a limited number of face-to-face appointments at other sites.”

Four of the six clinical rooms were damaged and two admin rooms were left with no phone or internet access.

In the images, ceilings, electronics, equipment, beds and paperwork can be seen badly damaged or destroyed while water covered the floors and surfaces.

The surgery’s phone lines confirmed that it remains closed due to flooding and that “it is not known when we will open”. An update from the practice online now confirms that “we can have no patients on site for the foreseeable future”.

Anyone who already has an appointment will receive a call if there are any changes.

Patients can call 111, which is managing the surgery's calls, and prescriptions can be requested as normal although they have been asked to allow a day longer. The practice also encouraged those needing prescriptions to request them early ahead of another bank holiday this weekend.

The spokesperson added: “Our thanks go to all the people who have worked hard to start getting us back to normal, NHS colleagues who have helped us see patients at nearby clinics, and the public for their understanding at this challenging time.”
