A 5G tower could be coming to an area where “an acute need for a new mast” was identified.
The 15-metre monopole has been proposed for a grass area in front of a The Avenue road sign, where it meets Finch Lane and Avenue Rise, in Bushey.
Under the plan, submitted to Hertsmere Borough Council on March 28 and added to the planning portal this week, the road sign would be moved a few metres away.
- Pedestrian taken to hospital after reports he was hit by a car
- Pharmacy delivering free of charge while roadworks block access
- Mountain of rubbish collected from major road dumping hotspot
No locations in the nearby area can be used to support a traditional “greenfield” mast and the roadside is “the only viable solution that minimises amenity issues”, according to WHP Telecoms on behalf of Three.
In documents submitted with the plan, WHP said there "is an acute need" for a new mast in this area to deliver a much faster network.
“The site has been selected on a wide adopted area of the highway in a position that will not impede pedestrian flow or the safety of passing motorists,” it added.
The plan is currently awaiting a decision.
