Police searched woodland for days to find a gun after arresting a man on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
Motorists had spotted a large police presence out near the A414 in St Albans since Monday (March 20), with some describing seeing “forensic white suits combing the area”.
Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed that, after reports of a man being spotted with what was believed to be a gun on Monday afternoon, officers arrived and arrested a 53-year-old on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

They added that after "extensive searches" of the wooded area, near London Colney, no weapon was found.

Locals shared their concern about what may have led to the large police presence, but the force was able to confirm that no one was injured.
The man was released on bail while police continue to investigate.
Passers-by reported seeing a “large police presence” as well as tents and sniffer dogs searching the woodland over two days, as well as a police car waiting in the area overnight.
