A year’s season ticket from Watford Junction to London will now set commuters back £3,712 after a national price hike.
From Sunday (March 4), fares in England and Wales rose by up to 5.9%, causing the cost of some annual season tickets to increase by hundreds of pounds.
It is the biggest rise for more than a decade and has left commuters worrying about their finances.

A Watford Junction to London annual ticket allows unlimited travel between the town's largest station and the capital’s terminal stations, including Euston.
Last year the same ticket cost commuters £3,504 — £208 less than it does now.
Just under half of fares and most season tickets are regulated and underwent the 5.9% rise.

Unlike in previous years, the latest rise was delayed by two months and below last July’s retail price index measure of inflation which in 2022 was 12.3%.
If the price had risen in line with inflation that would have brought the cost to £3,924.48 — £420.48 more than last year.
Instead, the government decided to cap the rise to be in line with last July’s 5.9% earnings growth figure.
