Police arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous and drug driving in someone else’s car after a multi-vehicle crash which “sounded like an explosion”.

The crash in the Meriden area involved three vehicles, one of which was parked, in Phillipers at around 11.20am this morning (March 6).

Hertfordshire Constabulary officers closed the road and an ambulance arrived, but no injuries have been reported.

A 43-year-old man from Abbots Langley has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without owner’s consent, driving without insurance, dangerous driving and drug driving.

According to a local, three police cars, a police van, and two recovery vehicles were in the road when they went to investigate.

Another said they heard "what sounded like a gas explosion", adding "it was that loud, I was in the garden and jumped out of my skin".
