Drivers have been urged to plan ahead as emergency roadworks have started on a busy Watford road.

Cadent Gas is carrying out urgent utility repair and maintenance works on the A412 Rickmansworth Road from today (February 27) until March 7.

Temporary traffic lights operating 24/7 have been installed while the work is being done near Watford Grammar School for Boys.

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) warned drivers of delays and urged them to plan ahead when travelling in the area.

This morning (February 28) a commuter told the Watford Observer that traffic was tailing back to Croxley Green and Baldwins Lane.

In a separate incident last week, traffic built up near Bushey Arches when Affinity Water introduced temporary traffic lights without a permit.

Over the weekend of February 18 and 19, as well as Monday, February 20, drivers were caught up in ‘travel chaos’ near Chalk Hill and Aldenham Road Junction before the lights were eventually removed.

HCC then rejected Affinity Water’s application for a four-day permit from April 3, saying it needed extra discussions first, before lights were then reinstalled under an emergency permit due to a burst water main.
