Dozens of people were left awestruck after the Northern Lights danced in Hertfordshire's skies for the second night running.

Joel Rabinowitz, 26, who lives in St Albans, captured the spectacle on Monday at about 9pm in Heartwood Forest.

Mr Rabinowitz said: “The Met office predicted good conditions, so I thought it was worth chancing it last night.

“The surprise element wasn’t quite there as it was on Sunday, but I’m glad I went.”

And this time, Mr Rabinowitz had company when viewing the phenomenon.

He said: “I was the only one in the field on Sunday, but yesterday there were tons of people and about 20 or 30 cars.

“It was cool having lots of people there and a bit surreal. It was nice to see a buzz around it.”

It is rare that the Northern Lights will be seen this far south. If they are visible in the UK, it is usually in Scotland.

Mr Rabinowitz, who has seen the natural wonder in Finland and Norway, said: “The shapes are easier to pick up there. The colours are different further north, they are greener.

“Down here, they are pinker and fainter.”
