Two children have raised £3,000 for victims of the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.
Hamza, 5, who goes to Merchant Taylors’ School in Moor Park and his sister Ameera, 7, who attends St Helen’s School raised the money by selling advent calendars for Ramadan.
Their mum, Zainab Merali, said she and her husband wanted their children to understand the importance of charity – which Ramadan is about, she said.
She added: “The children were very excited by this work.
“We sat down and found videos that were suitable for them to watch, and they were willing and inspired to do as much as they can.”
The children sold the calendars that contain a chocolate a day for 30 days, at their Sunday school and to family and friends.
Mrs Merali said: “We recorded a video of the children telling people what they were doing. We sent it to a few people, and it really took off.

“We had to stop because it was getting bigger than we could handle.”
From February 13 to February 24, the duo sold around 300 boxes. The minimum sale price was £5, but people could pay more if they wanted to.
All proceeds have been donated to The Zahra Trust.
