A plan has been submitted to demolish part of Watford Town Hall.
The proposal to knock down an extension to the building and replace it with temporary landscaping is currently "pending consideration" after it was submitted on Tuesday (January 17).
The terrapin building, which forms part of the town hall, is next to the car park and just behind The Horns pub.
It was built in 1987 and Watford Borough Council, which submitted the application, says it was never intended to be a permanent part of the building.
Watford mayor Peter Taylor said it was built at a time when working lives were very different.

“As a council we now need far less office space,” he added.
“Demolishing these outdated buildings will save the council money and free up space for better use within our overall ambitions for the Town Hall Quarter area, including opening up the town hall to the community.”
The proposed work, which if approved will start this spring, is due to be completed in the spring or summer of next year.
