The placement of a telecoms cabinet is an accident waiting to happen, especially for people walking back from the pub, a man has warned.

A Virgin Media unit was installed on the corner of Dickinson Square in Croxley Green, which then leads into Dickinson Avenue, on Thursday, January 12.

Karl Deimbacker, 60, branded the location “literally absurd” because it is in a “blind spot” immediately after a corner.

He said: “The lights go off at midnight. If you are walking back from the pub or something late, you are going to walk straight into it.

“It’s an accident waiting to happen.”

Mr Deimbacker, who lives in Croxley Green, said he has already noticed people swerve to avoid the box.

"Everyone walks past it and you can hear them muttering and swearing about it," he added.

“Someone is going to crash their knee into it. It’s just pure insanity to put it there.”

A spokesperson for Three Rivers District Council said that the telecoms company has exercised its permitted development rights to install the cabinet in the Dickinson Square Conservation Area.

The council did not answer any Watford Observer questions regarding health and safety.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: "We installed our cabinet as planned in Dickinson Square, however we are always happy to listen to residents’ concerns and consider other locations."
