A family say they were “left in shock” after finding their home ransacked and jewellery stolen, after getting back from a play area with their kids.
Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed they were called to reports of a burglary just off St Albans Road, near Stanborough Park, on January 8.
The parents said the stolen jewellery included family heirlooms and memories they wanted to keep, belonging to their children.
The father of two said: “We went to the play area and when we came back home we saw the door to the patio was open and a window was smashed.
“When I opened the door, I saw everything was thrown around and it was obvious what had happened.”
He urged others to take the threat of burglary seriously and to take precautions.
“We’ve lived here for eight years and never had a problem," he added.
“We are a bit in shock, but we have to move forward.”
A police spokesperson said: “Between 3.45pm and 7.45pm, it’s alleged an offender(s) gained entry to a property, taking items including gold jewellery, cash, and a small safe.
“A large window at the back of the property was also smashed.
“Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to please call 101 quoting crime reference 41/2229/23.”
