A four-car crash on the M1 has caused travel misery for commuters this evening.
The collision happened at around 3.50pm on the southbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 6A, near Hemel Hempstead.
Traffic was held and knock-on congestion spilt over onto the A41 and A414 as motorists tried to dodge the gridlock.

Police, fire and ambulance services rushed to the scene and carried out precautionary medical checks on three people.
No one is believed to have been seriously injured, according to Herts Police.
As of 5.53pm, there were still delays on the M1 but they are beginning to ease, according to Google Maps.
There are also reportedly 40-minute delays on the A41 near Kings Langley, though it is unclear if a separate incident is adding to congestion.
Herts Fire and Rescue Service sent engines from Hemel Hempstead and Garston stations to the M1 crash at 3.52pm, where crews found four vehicles involved.
They made the scene safe and left at 4.35pm.
