The latest gritting run plans for today and tomorrow have been confirmed amid ice warnings for Hertfordshire.

The county council has said that following a run at 1pm today (December 12), two more have been scheduled for 7pm and 4am tomorrow morning.

A spokesperson said currently there are only plans to salt “primary routes”.

That includes A and B roads, emergency service routes, train stations in the county, bus routes, one road into each village, roads linking key infrastructure and roads with a gradient of 10% and over.

A full list of what type of roads will be gritted is available on the council's website here.

It comes amid a day of travel mayhem with widespread bus and rail cancellations and at least one school closure.

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning for ice in place until 11am tomorrow.

Earlier today Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said that during his “different” school run, he found main roads are clear of snow but residential streets in Oxhey were not.

A county council spokesperson confirmed each school's headteacher and chair of governors is responsible for deciding whether it is safe to open in poor weather.

"We advise parents to check with their child’s school directly," they added. "A link to a school’s directory is on the county council’s website to allow parents to contact their children’s school for the latest updates."
