Watford’s MP says he was “put through his paces” by pupils during a Q&A session.

Dean Russell visited Future Academies Watford in Garston for a tour of its facilities and to speak to students.

He said the youngsters, some of whom had taken part in a debating competition in Parliament, asked him “insightful” questions, including on current affairs current affairs and how he became an MP and what it is like beinng one.

Speaking after his visit on Friday, Mr Russell said: “It was really enjoyable to see the impressive educational facilities and hear about the work [the school] is doing for students and the local area. I was impressed at the passion they showed in both politics and the local community. Thanks to all the students and staff for your time.”

It comes following a testing time at Future Academies, which was recently told it needs to make improvements by Ofsted.

The secondary school was told a “significant proportion” of pupils’ behaviour is “unacceptable”, and the needs of children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) are not well met.

The report was released shortly after it emerged police had to detain a pupil for allegedly assaulting a staff member.

There have also been claims of pupils causing trouble in Boundary Way.
