A shy child who had been bullied at school came out of her shell thanks to a free performing arts week held in Watford.
The parent of an 11-year-old girl was full of praise for the free You Matter Performing Arts Week held in the Meriden Community Centre from October 24 to 18.
Initially, the parent, who does not want to be named, was not sure if their daughter would go because she is shy in large groups.

They said: “She has been bullied at school and now finds it hard to make friends so spends a lot of time on her own.
“With a little encouragement she joined in and absolutely loved the first day and came home full of stories of what she’d done and how amazing the teachers were.
“To see her singing and dancing in the show on Friday was a very special moment – taking the stage with a big smile and full of confidence was very emotional to watch.”
The week was organised by Andre Best who runs the charity You Matter, based in the Meriden.
A total of 30 children, aged 8 to 13, from across Watford had the opportunity to learn from talented professionals, including Briony Albert who has choregraphed routines for Strictly Come Dancing, X Factor and The Voice.
The last day saw all the children perform in one big showcase for their families to see.
Ollie, aged 12, said is favourite part of the week were the drama lessons.
He said: “We’ve done script reading with a professional actress which was so good.”
India, aged nine, described it as the “best week of her life” and Belle aged 10 said she enjoyed the dancing and circus activities.
Ms Best said the week was so successful she would like to run more.
She added: “It was beautiful to see that in the right environment and with encouragement, children can become so full of self-worth.”
