Dirt-bike riders have been causing misery for some farmers in recent weeks.

Crops have been damaged and left farmers out of pocket due to a spate of off-road biking in parts of Three Rivers district.

Police are aware and pledged to crack down on riders breaking the law.

 PC Christian Gottmann, from the Rickmansworth and Croxley Green safer neighbourhood team, said: “There have been instances of people riding dirt bikes through freshly seeded fields, damaging crops and causing unnecessary financial loss to our hard-working farmers.

“Unless you have permission to be on private farmland, riding there is trespassing. At present, no farmer in Three Rivers gives permission for anyone to be riding on their land.

“Patrols have been increased and anyone caught riding anti-socially will be dealt with robustly.”

PC Gottmann also warned this type of behaviour is a “noise nuisance” and can be dangerous for members of the public.

Police are encouraging anyone who spots these riders to report it to them, including a description of the rider, helmet, and a registration number.

Those caught riding illegally or anti-socially could be given a ‘section 59’ warning which means their vehicle can be seized if caught again within the next 12 months.

Riders can also be reported for traffic offences and be issued with community protection warnings.
