Harper Lane set to reopen today after bridge repairs

The bridge in Harper Lane in Radlett has been shut off since September 27 after a head-on collision damaged a wall that runs over the train track below.

Frustrated motorists have been sent on diversions and businesses claimed to have been left out of pocket by the closure.

Repairs by Network Rail have been ongoing and the bridge by the junction with Watling Street is due to be reopen this afternoon (Friday October 21).

However, a local county councillor has warned repair work is not complete and there will still be night-time closures.

Cllr Caroline Clapper said: “Network Rail will be reopening Harper Lane Friday afternoon around 3pm.

“Network Rail will return next week to finish up the repairs, reinstate fencing and remove the scaffold under night-time (10pm–4am) road closures between Monday October 24 and 27."

She added: “It has been agreed this is the better option in order to reopen the road earlier, which is a huge benefit for the businesses, residents, besides all highway users that have been impacted.”

Meanwhile, London Road in Shenley remains shut by the junction with Harris Lane due to a burst water main.

There was hope the road would be back open by Thursday evening.
