The owners of Bovingdon Market have denied claims that its market has relocated to a new site.

The popular market closed for the final time at Bovingdon Airfield at the end of August after more than 40 years of trading.

The airfield is being used to build new filming studios and has left bargain hunters desperate for news of a potential new trading site.

Over the weekend, a Facebook post stating Bovingdon Market has relocated to a farm just over the border in Buckinghamshire attracted more than 3,500 shares and over 1,000 comments.

The post, published on September 10, said: “Bovingdon market has re-located to Nathan’s farm field starts from today here now HP8 4BT. Open 10.00 till 4.00 parking in the field opposite.”

It is possible that some of Bovingdon Market’s traders have moved to this site, which appears to be a farmer’s field between Maple Cross and Chalfont St Giles.

However, a spokesperson for Wendy Fair Markets, which ran Bovingdon Market, has confirmed to the Watford Observer that the market at Nathan’s Farm Field “has nothing to do” with Wendy Fair or the previous Bovingdon Market.

The company also confirmed that it is yet to find a replacement site and says the search is proving “difficult”.

Land of at least 10 acres, suitable for market use and parking, and with appropriate access is needed – but Wendy Fair says potential sites are being used for new housing developments instead.

A spokesperson added: “We would love to find a site that we can move the extremely popular market too, especially now when people need to make their money stretch further.”

The market traded at Bovingdon Airfield every Saturday and on bank holidays with more than 400 stalls serving a wide range of goods from food to fashion.

It attracted thousands of people every week and there was even more gridlock than usual in Bovingdon over the August bank holiday as unprecedented numbers flocked for a final visit.

Dacorum Borough Council granted permission in 2021 to build three film studios on the former airfield – part of the former runway has already been in use for several years for film and television.
