A hoax email was being sent around attempting to convince pupils that their school was closed due to the Queen’s death.

Bushey Meads alerted parents last night that the email was circulating amongst students claiming it would be “closed until further notice”.

In a legitimate email later sent by the school, it was clarified this was not the case and that school is open as normal today.

The email reads: “Whilst everyone is experiencing the sad news of loss, facing our country at this time, I have been made aware of an email that has been circulated amongst students.

“The email suggests it is from Mr Turner and claims the school will be closed until further notice in response to the death of Her Majesty, the Queen.

“This is not the case and the school will be open as normal tomorrow.”

One mother, Mrs Jones, said: “When I realised, I thought it (the initial fake email) was quite disrespectful.

"Although I realise it was probably the students doing it and they can be immature, it’s still very disrespectful and not something they should be doing at this tragic time.”

She added that the school handled the disinformation “perfectly” as they contacted the parents quickly and “nipped it in the bud”.
