One of Watford’s highest grade listed buildings is no longer deemed safe for the public.
Little Cassiobury is a Grade II* listed building in Hempstead Road thought to be a dower house built for Elizabeth Percy, Countess of Essex, in the late 17th Century.
Little Cassiobury Community Interest Company (CIC) had to cancel its forthcoming heritage open day on Saturday at short notice after a council inspection raised safety concerns.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council said: “A recent inspection has highlighted some safety concerns within the building.
“There has been water damage to some parts of the property which needs further inspection, and there are some areas of broken glass and uneven flooring.
“Unfortunately, this means that at the moment it is not appropriate for events for members of the public to be held within the building.”
Alex Macgregor Mason is a director at the CIC, he said: “We are disappointed that we are unable to show the house to our supporters and those interested in heritage in the Watford area.”
