A grenade was discovered at a recycling centre in Hertfordshire on Monday evening (September 5).
Police cordoned off Cole Green Recycling Centre on the A414 between Hatfield and Hertford after reports of a suspicious device.
Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed today (Tuesday) that the device was a grenade but following a visit by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, it was deemed inactive and "safe".
The recycling centre and A414 was closed for aorund two hours after officers were initially called just before 5pm.
Hertfordshire Constabulary initially posted on social media shortly after 5.30pm: "The A414 in Cole Green is currently closed following a suspicious device that was found at the recycling centre.
"A cordon is in place and the centre has been shut.
"We are at the scene and we kindly advise motorists to avoid the area and seek an alternative route."

In an updated post, the force said: "Please be aware the A414 at Cole Green has now reopened following the earlier closure.
"Thank you for your patience."
