More than 60% of pupils at a school received only A or A* grades in their A-levels this year.

A total of 16% of students at Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood achieved only A* grades, and nine boys received four.

In art, Greek, design and technology, German, Latin, sports science and Spanish, every pupil achieved an A* or A grade.

Headmaster Simon Everson commended pupils' success given the difficulty students had getting into universities this year.

He said: "Applications for university are widely reported to be more challenging this year so we are thrilled at our pupils' success in progressing to the course and universities of their choice.

“Their achievement has been very much in line with what we would have expected in a pre-Covid year.

"Many congratulations!"
