Our series ’50 events and dates that shaped Watford’ may have come to an end but we are delighted to once again team up our friends at Watford Museum to recall a structure from the town’s past – a dovecote in the grounds of Frogmore House.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This photo is the only image we have of the dovecote that was in the grounds of Frogmore House. Often dovecotes were isolated structures but this one appears to be attached to an outbuilding.
“Unfortunately it, along with two summerhouses and other garden buildings no longer exist, and I have not discovered from maps where in the grounds it was located.

“The house though, built in the early 1700s, remains a landmark on the Lower High Street and has a new modern neighbour, the Lidl supermarket.”

Watford Museum is open from 10am to 5pm, Thursday to Saturday.
