The much-loved café in Cassiobury Park is set to temporarily close in just two weeks.
Brian and Mandy Evans, who run the Cha Café, will be retiring at the end of August and there will be no business operating at the site in the short term.
Watford Borough Council has confirmed the contract was set to end in December but the operators are ending it early.
The council, which owns the Pavilion building that houses the café, said it will be seeking a new operator to take up the lease in autumn.
The Watford Observer understands that the lease would not automatically have been renewed so would have gone onto the market in December.
Watford's mayor Peter Taylor said: “The Cha café is an important part of what makes Cassiobury Park such a special place.
“I have always enjoyed visiting the cafe and I would like to thank Mandy, Brian and the team for making it the success it has been and wish them all the best for the future."
