Watford’s Big Screen is back this week showing some of the world’s cinematic favourites.
Screenings will include blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War, Dune, Uncharted and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as swinging rhythmic masterpieces like Hairspray, Chicago and West Side Story.
If you’re looking for something a bit more refined, there will be showings of Downton Abbey, Chaplin and The Great Gatsby, alongside well-known family classics like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, E.T, The Mask and The Italian Job.
From August 8-14, the screen will be at Knutsford Playing Fields in Radlett Road before being taken to Woodside Playing Fields in Garston from August 15-21.
The screenings put on by Watford Borough Council are free to watch and no booking is required. There will also be food and drinks vendors at each site.
Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: “The Big Screen has become a mainstay of our Big Events programme, bringing great films to residents throughout the summer – and all for free!
“There’s no better way to while away the warm summer days. I look forward to seeing everyone there.”
One of the Big Screen’s offerings that will prove a hit with children is the Good Wood Gang - the rag-tag group of animal friends.
Inspired by the town’s Goodwood Park, the animations aim to encourage children to believe in the power and magic of their local park as a backdrop for making up their very own stories.
Razi Hassan, one of the Good Wood Gang creators, said: “We think people will absolutely love the Good Wood Gang.
“What’s not to love? We’ve conjured up some wonderful characters!
“There’s the warm and rosy Grandma Biscuit, who just happens to bake the yummiest treats, Patrick the Lion who was looking for a good home so made his way to Good Wood, and Freddie the Fox who’s obsessed with Italian food.”
Co-creator Ian Port added: “We believe every child deserves the opportunity to ‘Be like Boopi’, the little boy who makes friends with Pecan and the rest of the Good Wood Gang and goes on to explore the magic of a local park.”
