Hello there, my name’s Ginger, and I live with my two sisters Twix and Squash. We’re three-year-old female guinea pigs looking for a home together. We came to the National Animal Welfare Trust a month ago when our owner had a change of circumstances.
We’re very chatty in the mornings waiting for our nuggets and veg – our favourite vegetables are carrots, apples and pears. Guinea pigs are one of the few animals that can’t make Vitamin C so we need to get it from our diet or take a Vitamin C supplement.
We can be a bit wriggly and vocal when you first pick us up, but I’m the most confident out of my sisters and will want to have a nose rub.
The staff here are getting me, Twix and Squash more used to being handled. When we go to our forever home we’d like the adults to do most of handling until we’ve settled in.
We’re outdoor guinea pigs but are happy to be brought inside now and then so we can bond with you. We guinea pigs make very popular first pets as we’re happier to be handled than other small animals and live, on average, four to eight years. Another plus is that we’re awake during the day when you are!
If you’d like the fun guinea pigs bring to a home, email reception@nawt.org.uk or call 0208 950 0177 (option 2) to meet.
