More than 230 999 calls were received at the end of what is thought to have been the busiest week ever for the fire service in Hertfordshire.
Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue’s control room received 238 calls yesterday (Sunday) between 7am and 7pm, with crews sent to 76 incidents.
Jobs ranged from fires in woodland and the countryside to town centres, along with other emergency incidents. Firefighters were also called to assist in north London.

The fire service said a lot of calls related to smoke that people had spotted – with “several large fires tying up a lot of our resources”.
Residents were asked to refrain from calling unless they can "definitely" see fire and are able to provide an exact location.

Among the south Herts incidents were a large grass fire in Lye Lane, Bricket Wood at 5.45pm, grass on fire behind Merry Hill Road, Bushey at 10.26pm, and fire in woodland in High Elms Lane, Garston at 9.02pm.
Earlier in the week, the fire service declared a major incident after more than 450 calls were made during Tuesday’s record-breaking heatwave where temperatures in some parts of England surpassed 40 degrees celcius.
