A bus operator has begun serving stops in Watford High Street again.

Arriva has been avoiding the heart of the town centre because the company feared its buses would get trapped by bollards while entering or exiting.

However in a letter shared on social media, Arriva said it would “test” using the high street again.

It read: “Arriva will be using the Watford High Street bus stops from Wednesday July 20.

“All services that previously used to serve stop B, outside Wilko, will be doing so from July 20.

“This means the service 500 will be terminating at Watford Palace Theatre and you will be able to board at the stop B outside Wilko."

It added: “Service 10/20 towards Hemel Hempstead or South Way will be using stop B also.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst we were unable to serve stop B.”

A spokesperson for Arriva said it became aware other operators were serving the high street via the bollards and so it is testing the route again.

The company said in the past, its drivers have been forced to reverse because the automatic bollards were not functioning properly.
