The legacy of a much-loved businessman will live on as his son hopes to take over the family business and push it into a digital age.

There was a big question mark left for the future of Croxley Sports Shop after the unfortunate death of Cliff Vassiliou, 86, in May.

Just months before Mr Vassiliou died, he was overjoyed when locals helped save his shop and he gained much media attention when it was on the brink of closing.

The shop at Watford Road, Croxley Green, has been open for select dates to allow customers one last chance to visit, share memories and buy last minute items.

The final opening dates for the shop are Friday (July 22) and Saturday (July 23).

After that, sportswear as well as embroidery and printing services will be available at the new website, cliffsports.co.uk

Discussing the last few opening days, Mr Vassiliou said: “In a strange kind of way it’s been therapeutic almost, it’s a difficult time and it’s been quite nice because pretty much everyone that’s come in there knows him in one shape or form.”

Some customers would come in and share their stories of how they knew his father, including how he helped them to find jobs and other tales of his generosity.

He continued: “Although I still have my fulltime job, it’s quite nice to roll it out and help it go forward to keep the name going.”

Currently the website is a work-in-progress, but it is hoped that in a few weeks time it will be ready for launch and customers can buy items and book the embroidery and printing services.

Mr Vassiliou says he will try to dedicate his time to “carry forward and grow” the business, and his daughter has already paid interest in helping out too.

The son hopes he can keep a personal touch to the business, just as his dad has done all these years.
