Changes to bin collection times have been confirmed by councils after an amber heatwave warning.
Watford Borough Council has said that waste bins will need to be out by 5am, or the night before where possible, in order to prioritise the health and safety of its staff, who would otherwise work at the hottest time of day.

To help crews cope with the current heatwave, they will be collecting bins earlier than normal. Please leave your bins out the night before or by 5am. Thank you for your understanding. pic.twitter.com/Ro0NOfgw9b
Hertsmere Borough Council has not put these measures in place but has confirmed it is a contingency measure it will consider for the welfare of its staff.
An amber extreme heat warning is in place for on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures likely to peak in excess of 35C.

The warning says the extreme heat could cause health problems across the population, not just among people vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to potential serious illness or danger to life.
