Watford General Hospital staff and visitors are being asked to shoulder some of the burden to stop bike thefts by taking “preventative measures,” including securing their bikes.
The call comes after a Watford Observer freedom of information request to Hertfordshire Constabulary revealed that eight bikes had been stolen in a six-month time frame.
From December 1, 2021 to May 22, 2022, two members of staff had their bikes stolen.

One member of the public had their bike stolen and five unspecified people had their bikes stolen.
The West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust told the Observer they will be introducing a number of measures to ensure bikes are not stolen.
A spokesperson said: “We would encourage all staff and visitors to take preventative measures by securing their bikes.
“Our local police community support officers have recently organised bike marking events and there will be more throughout the year.
“We are also reviewing CCTV provision across our bike storage areas.”
