Undercover police officers are being deployed in Cassiobury Park to combat possible drug activity in the area.
Patrols have been increased as part of a Herts Police crackdown following recent reports – some of which have been circulating on social media.
A police spokesperson confirmed the Safer Neighbourhood Team will also be conducting “regular proactive high-vis patrols” alongside the undercover officers.
Lester Holloway, editor of The Voice News, was among those to have voiced fears over the problem.
“I strongly suspect that drug taking is going on there (in Cassiobury Park) and along the path from Waterfields Rec to the pedestrian overpass across Stephenson Way,” he said.
It came after he warned of a dog being “used as a weapon against random strangers” – which he suspected could have been linked to local drug activity.
Last September officers also said they would prioritise complaints on antisocial behaviour, drug use, youth-related disorder and crowds.
