Overgrown bushes next to a major road are providing cover for illicit drinking and could become a hiding place and vantage point for criminals.
These are the concerns of Watford mother Priyal Gupta, who noticed the untended bushes and trees on the corner of Park Avenue and Rickmansworth Road after she moved in nearby in January.
The mother of two sent complaints to Watford Borough Council and the Land Registry over several months to try to find out who owns the land - but to no avail.
She says people have been sneaking through the gates of the property at the night and hiding in the bushes.
The mother said: “We have seen people hiding, the security cameras have caught them and the lights keep going on and off at the night.
“I’m not sure what their intentions are, this is late at night, I’m talking late past midnight. Their intentions are surely not good.”
Peering through the bushes, she spotted several beer cans and lots of rubbish.
“My kids play late after school and in the evening sometimes and I don’t want to be vigilant and scared in my own home that I have to constantly keep an eye out on my kids,” she added.
She also said with people sneaking over the gate and hiding behind the bush, it could potentially give criminals a vantage point to break in or watch their house.
“It’s getting to the point I need some help,” the mother claimed.
A Watford Borough Council spokesperson, said: “We understand the distress caused by the overgrown land.
“Officers have been in touch with the landowner responsible to raise concerns around fly-tipping and trespassing and look forward to the issues being resolved in good time.
“In the meantime, our officers will continue to monitor the situation closely."
