Drivers in Watford, Garston, and Bushey are being warned of disruption over the next three weekends.
Closures will be in force on the A41 Colne Way because of repairs being carried out on the River Colne Bridge that runs over Otterspool Lane.
The work will begin this Friday night (June 17) and run for three consecutive weekends.
From 10pm on Friday June 17 until 6am on Monday June 20, the A41 will be shut southbound between the junctions of Westlea Avenue and the M1 Berrygrove roundabout. The northbound carriageway will be open but only a single lane will be running.
Between 10pm on Friday June 24 and 6am on Monday June 27, the A41 will be closed northbound between the M1 Berrygrove roundabout and Woodmere Avenue. The southbound carriageway will be open but a single lane will be running.
Then from 10pm on Friday July 1 until 6am on Monday July 4, one lane will be closed northbound between Berrygrove and Woodmere Avenue, along with the cycleway. The southbound carriageway will be fully open.
Diversion signs will be in place for motorists, Hertfordshire County Council says, and queues in the area are likely.
