Almost £400,000 of taxpayers' money will be spent making a council's offices more environmentally friendly.

Plans to revamp Three Rivers House in Rickmansworth include insulation, double glazing, an improved ventilation system, and an air source heat pump for heating and hot water.

Three Rivers District Council says the energy-saving measures will reduce emissions by more than 70 per cent, saving 335,170 kilowatt hours and £15,000 per year.

Council leader Cllr Sarah Nelmes said: “Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time. We are committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2030 for our own emissions and by 2045 for the district.

“And as a council we need to lead by example. So I am delighted that we have secured this funding to make vital changes to our own headquarters.”

The work is being funded by a grant of £375,493 through the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as part of its public sector decarbonisation scheme, being delivered by Salix Finance.
