E-scooter crashes are appearing to become more of a problem in Hertfordshire, latest figures from the Department of Transport show.
The method of transport has become increasingly popular over recent years, despite it still being illegal to use a privately owned e-scooter in public.
Figures released on May 25 shows that in 2021, there were 23 crashes in Hertfordshire that involved e-scooters and resulted in injuries.
This is compared to 2,228 injuries in the county that involved any vehicle.
Back in 2020, just seven people were injured in a e-scooter crash in Hertfordshire.
Overall in Great Britain, there were 1,359 e-scooter injuries in 2021.
Hertfordshire County Council has repeated that there currently are no approved trials within the county, meaning that using e-scooters on pavements and roads in Hertfordshire remains illegal.
A spokesperson said: “Using one not only endangers the rider themselves and other road users, but also risks seizure of the scooter by police and being reporting for having no insurance.”
