Watford FC's floodlights were used to assist police in helping a teenager who climbed a crane. 

Police called the club for assistance to use their floodlights and provide additional lighting during the incident in Vicarage Road on Monday, May 30.

A boy, 13, climbed towards the top of the crane, which is being used in the building of new flats at the former Colney Butts House site.

Officers attended at 7.30pm and the road was shut until 11pm.

The boy was safely detained at around 9pm thanks to the help of the stadium floodlights.

A club spokesperson said: “We were pleased our infrastructure was able to be of use in this situation and the club is grateful to the excellence and experience of those who ensured a positive outcome.”

Colney Butts House was demolished near the end of last year for 36 flats, and work has been taking place at the site since.
